Christmas and New Year arrangements at Swanswell Medical Centre

The practice will only be closed on the 3 Bank Holidays over this period – Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. 

Other than these 3 days the practice will be open and operating as normal – 08:00 – 18:30 each week day for online forms, calls and in person visits.  In addition our Extended Access service at Hall Green Health in the evenings and weekends is operating as usual over this period as is our Out of Hours care service, provided by Badger.

We strongly advise all patients to renew their repeat prescriptions in a timely manner around the holiday period to ensure that you have the medicines that you need, and avoid any last minute panic or emergency.

If you have not yet had your seasonal flu vaccine we would advise those eligible to arrange this with the practice to have it prior to the holiday period to provide you with maximum protection.

In addition other local primary care services will also be open over the holiday period, such as:

• Pharmacy First service offering a walk-in service from your local community pharmacy for certain conditions such as –

  • sore throat
  • sinusitis
  • otitis media (children)
  • urinary tract infections (women)
  • shingles
  • infected insect bites
  • impetigo.

Referrals supported by electronic messaging is also possible for a wider scope of symptoms and conditions directly from NHS111, 111Online and general practice. 

• Your NHS App is a great point of contact to order repeat medication and gain access to urgent repeat medicines via NHS111 and 111Online as a referral to community pharmacy or Pharmacy First.

• Local Urgent Care Centres, Minor Injury Units, Walk-In-Centres/Urgent Treatment Centres are all open over the holiday period to provide care.
